📖 THE ORIGINS OF EARTH DAY – AN ENVIRONMENTAL REVOLUTION

In 1970, United States Senator Gaylord Nelson initiated the first Earth Day as an urgent call in response to the air and water pollution and the absence of environmental protection policies of that time.

👉 On 22 April 1970, more than 20 million Americans took to the streets together, marking the largest environmental event in the history of the United States and paving the way for:

✅ The establishment of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
✅ The introduction of a series of important environmental laws

🌱 EARTH DAY 2024 – THEME: PLANET VS. PLASTICS

Amid plastic pollution that is threatening life on Earth, this year's theme calls for a sharp reduction in single-use plastic consumption and stronger recycling efforts.

💡 You can start with small actions:

♻️ Refuse plastic straws
♻️ Carry your own water bottle
♻️ Choose products with no packaging or with biodegradable packaging
♻️ Reuse – repair – share instead of throwing away
