📣 Joining Hands to Revive Ha Long Bay After Super Typhoon Yagi

Green Mission – Revive Halong Bay 2024

🌊 NATURE CALLS – THE COMMUNITY ANSWERS

On 2 October 2024, more than 100 representatives from travel and tourism companies, together with domestic and international volunteers, joined hands to take part in the “Green Mission – Revive Halong Bay” campaign – a large-scale effort to restore the landscape of Ha Long Bay after the severe damage caused by super typhoon Yagi (Storm No. 3).

As a World Natural Heritage site, Ha Long Bay was heavily affected by the storm, with:

  • Numerous landscapes destroyed
  • Marine ecosystems under threat
  • A large amount of floating waste: debris from aquaculture rafts, tree branches, styrofoam buoys, household rubbish…

🍀 A JOINT EFFORT TO CLEAN UP HA LONG BAY

Immediately after the storm, Bhaya Cruises coordinated with the Ha Long Bay Management Board to launch a clean-up campaign, while also calling on the business and tourism community to take action together.

The “Green Mission – Revive Halong Bay” campaign is part of the annual non-profit project “Clean the Bay”, which this year marks its 7th consecutive year. The event brought together:

  • Domestic & international tourism businesses
  • Non-profit organisations and media agencies
  • Local communities and volunteers

🌿 HONOURING THE VALUE OF HA LONG BAY

In addition to the clean-up activity, the event also featured:

  • In-depth discussions on ocean plastic pollution
  • Strategies for managing and reducing waste
  • Raising community awareness and promoting sustainable tourism

In particular, the delegates visited the “The Soul of Halong Bay” exhibition at the Bhaya Cruise Centre – a space showcasing the images, stories and values of Ha Long Bay from a cultural and ecological perspective.

♻️ CLEANING THE BAY – SMALL ACTIONS CREATING A BIG IMPACT

Under the coordination of the Au Co cruise (part of Bhaya Cruises) and experts from GreenU, more than 100 volunteers cleaned up 1.7 km of coastline, collecting:

  • 1,652 pieces of styrofoam buoy
  • 1,752 plastic bottles
  • 189 pieces of abandoned fishing net
  • 296 pieces of other non-recyclable waste

🍃 SPREADING FROM CARING HEARTS

The campaign received financial and media support from many partners, including:

  • 💼 DTH Travel, Asia Encounter, Asia DMC, Discova
  • 📺 GreenU, Men&Life, Vietnam Television (VTV4)

More than an environmental event, Green Mission – Revive Halong Bay is also a testament to the solidarity, sense of responsibility and concrete action for our living environment – for ourselves today and for generations to come.

🌱 Every small action today will bring great revival tomorrow.
With persistent and far-reaching efforts, we hope that Ha Long Bay will soon return to its natural beauty – a natural treasure of Vietnam and the world.
