Workshop "Pathways for a Robust Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) System in Viet Nam"

On 11 August 2026, in Ha Noi, the workshop “Pathways for a Robust Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) System in Viet Nam” was held under the Viet Nam National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP), bringing together representatives from government agencies, producers, recyclers and other stakeholders across the plastic value chain, both in person and online.

A robust EPR system cannot be built by one stakeholder alone

A robust EPR system cannot be built by one stakeholder alone. It requires active participation, open dialogue and coordinated action across government, producers, recyclers, waste-management actors and other stakeholders throughout the value chain, with clear roles and responsibilities for each.

An open space for dialogue between business and policymakers

The workshop created a space for the business sector to openly discuss practical challenges, explore solutions for a stronger and more effective EPR system, and share directly with EPR policymakers.

NPAP and UNDP's bridging role

Through NPAP, UNDP Viet Nam plays a bridging role between the government and the private sector, connecting international experience with Viet Nam's context and facilitating dialogue towards practical, shared solutions.

The organisers thank all speakers and facilitators, the Viet Nam Environment Agency and the EPR Office for their active engagement and valuable contributions, and all participants from government agencies, the private sector, institutions and organisations for making the discussion open, constructive and forward-looking.

Representing GreenU, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang helped coordinate a working group discussion on Vehicles, Lubricants and Batteries — one of the priority product groups on Viet Nam's EPR roadmap — contributing practical input drawn from monitoring and evaluating the collection and recycling chain.
